Large-Scale Experiment with 1,500 Volunteers Commences
Over four days, the CroMa research project is simulating crowding on railway platforms to develop safety concepts for overcrowded railway stations
Jülich, 8 October 2021 – A total of some 1,500 volunteers are expected to participate in a large-scale scientific experiment that started on Friday, 8 October in the Mitsubishi Electric HALLE in Düsseldorf. Over the four days of the experiment, the volunteers will walk around the venue on a number of different routes in order to recreate conditions on crowded and overcrowded railway platforms. They will be guided by researchers from Forschungszentrum Jülich, the University of Wuppertal, and Ruhr University Bochum as part of the CroMa project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within its research programme for civil security. The results of the experiment will help to improve the safety and performance of railway stations when faced with high passenger numbers.
