JuDocS Modules: Support During Doctoral Projects

JuDocS offers and bundles various activities that are intended to provide targeted support to doctoral researchers and supervisors during a doctoral project.

Qualification: JuDocS Transferable Skills Curriculum

JuDocS offers a transferable skills course curriculum with mandatory and voluntary elements for all doctoral researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, regardless of their discipline.

For our courses, we work with selected, external trainers who have a lot of experience in the scientific landscape and strong expertise in their respective fields. Our courses are regularly evaluated according to university standards and the results are discussed with the trainers so that the courses can be adapted in a targeted manner.

We are happy to accept equivalent courses that you may take at a university as part of your doctoral thesis on request.

Central Monitoring of Doctoral Projects

Intensive specialized supervision of doctoral projects takes place in the institutes and at the universities awarding the doctoral degrees. An additional important element for doctoral supervision at Forschungszentrum Jülich is the central monitoring of the progress of doctoral projects. This is conducted by a committee specially appointed for this purpose and is a long-established process for the majority of doctoral researchers at Jülich.

The responsible committee supports the progress of your doctoral project by providing feedback on regular reports, including milestone planning and accompanying activities like participation in conferences and publishing scientific articles. The aim of this process is to facilitate the completion of doctoral projects within a reasonable timeframe and to assist you, as the doctoral researcher, to establish yourself as an independent member of the scientific community.

Counselling in Supervision Conflicts

The JuDocS Committee for Counselling in Supervision Conflicts consists of institute heads, experienced supervisors and doctoral researchers who work at Forschungszentrum Jülich and have been trained in counselling in conflict situations. You can contact the entire committee or individual members if you face a supervision conflict during a doctoral project that you cannot solve alone and/or if you would like to include another perspective in the resolution process.

The committee members will treat all inquiries strictly confidential. They will advise you with the aim of resolving the conflict so that the project can be finalized successfully. At your request, the committee may also take a moderating role in the conflict.
